Empire 8 Announces 2025 Women’s Soccer All-Conference Awards

Empire 8 Regular Season Champion and tournament finalist SUNY Brockport won four of the six individual awards, as the Empire 8 Conference announced its 2025 Women’s Soccer All-Conference selections on Tuesday, Nov. 11. The awards are voted on by the league's head coaches.
 
Sophomore forward Emily Woolingham of league champion St. John Fisher University was named the 2025 Empire 8 Offensive Player of the Year, while Ella Grupe of Hartwick College earned Rookie of the Year honors. From there, it was all Brockport, as Amelia Breton won the league’s inaugural Midfielder of the Year award, while teammate Lyndsey Miller earned Defensive Player of the Year honors for the second straight season. Emily McCane was named the Empire 8 Goalkeeper of the Year, while Brockport’s coaching staff, led by head coach Mike Idland was named the Empire 8 Coaching Staff of the Year.
 
Woolingham helped lead the Cardinals to a 9-1-1 record in league play and their first Empire 8 Women’s Soccer Championship and NCAA Division III Women’s Soccer Tournament berth in program history. Woolingham leads all Empire 8 student-athletes in scoring with 11 goals, seven assists and 29 points this season. She was tremendous in E8 league play, recording 24 points on nine goals and six assists in 11 conference games. Woolingham is St. John Fisher’s second E8 Offensive Player of the Year in program history.
 
Breton was named Empire 8 Midfielder of the Year after a standout junior season in which she tallied 21 points on nine goals and three assists and helped lead a Brockport defense that allowed just seven goals on the year. Four of her nine goals were game-winning tallies. In league play, Breton had 13 points on six goals and an assist in 11 contests with a pair of game-winners. Her standout two-way play also helped the Golden Eagles allow just one goal in E8 regular season play this season.
 
Miller led a stout Brockport defense that allowed just seven goals over 20 contests this season. The Golden Eagles allowed just one goal in 11 Empire 8 regular season conference games of the season and recorded 15 total clean sheets on the season. She has also chipped in offensively with nine points on four goals and an assist. She is just the third player in Empire 8 history to be named a two-time Defensive Player of the Year, joining Anna Gray of Ithaca College (2011 and 2013) and Madison Miller of Hartwick (2016 and 2017).
 
McCane enjoyed a tremendous season in net for SUNY Brockport, recording a sensational 0.25 goals against average and a .920 save percentage with 13 combined shutouts in 15 games, along with a 9-0-3 record. She did not allow a goal 543 minutes of league play, as Brockport finished 10-0-1 in those contests and surrendered just one total goal in those 11 games. McCane was a part of 10 combined shutouts in E8 play.
 
Grupe helped lead Hartwick to the 2025 Empire 8 Semifinals and a 9-4-6 overall record. She recorded four goals, four assists and 12 points in 2025. She had eight points on three goals and two assists in 11 E8 regular season contests and scored a key goal in Hartwick’s 3-1 win over Utica University in the Empire 8 Quarterfinals. 
 
Idland and assistant coaches Kody Haywood, Kate Wagner, and Jaylah Cossin led the Golden Eagles to the E8 regular season title, while earning the top seed in the league tournament and a spot in the E8 Championship game. Brockport went 11-0-1 in Empire 8 regular season play and 14-2-4 overall in 2025, while allowing just seven goals in 20 contests. Brockport out-scored teams 36-7 this season and recorded 15 shutouts in 20 games. In addition, a league-high eight Golden Eagles student-athletes earned 2024 All-E8 honors. It is Brockport’s second straight E8 Coaching Staff of the Year honor.
 
Brockport had a league-high six first team members, while four St. John Fisher student-athletes and one each from Nazareth, SUNY Geneseo and Utica University were honored. Overall, Brockport and St. John Fisher each had a league-high eight student-athletes earn All-E8 honors. Senior Tatum Overton of Nazareth, the 2022 E8 Rookie of the Year and 2023 Player of the Year, garnered All-E8 first team accolades for the fourth straight season. Both Breton and Miller of Brockport in addition to Ryann Dauksza and Madelyn Wania of St. John Fisher earned All-E8 first team honors for the second straight year.
 
One member of each team was named that institution's representative on the 2025 Women's Soccer Tomorrow’s Leaders Team. This team honors a student-athlete who has emerged as a leader not only on the field of play, but in the classroom and in the community. In addition, they “compete with honor and integrity” and have distinguished themselves and consistently exhibit the critical traits as outstanding sportswomen.

“Developing character and integrity is a hallmark of the Empire 8,” said E8 Executive Director Chuck Mitrano. “This series is proof that Empire 8 and our member institutions are committed to intercollegiate athletics’ important role in higher education.”
