Empire 8 women’s basketball standouts Sidney Tomasso of St. John Fisher University, Kayla Camacho of Houghton University, SUNY Brockport's Stephanie Jean-Baptiste and the SUNY Geneseo duo of Mackenzie Reigle and Kristin Suydam earned 2024-24 D3hoops.com All-Region 3 honors on Tuesday, March 18. SUNY Brockport Head Coach Corinne Jones was the Region 3 Coach of the Year.
Tomasso earned first team accolades for the second straight season, while Camacho earned second team honors. Jean-Baptiste, Reigle and Suydam garnered third team accolades.
Tomasso, a senior guard from Waverly, NY, who was last month was named the 2024-25 Empire 8 Player of the Year, for the second consecutive season, enjoyed a tremendous senior season for the Cardinals, leading the Empire 8 in scoring, averaging 19.2 points per game to go along with 9.3 rebounds per contest, second-best in the league. In addition, Tomasso averaged 1.8 steals per game, ninth in the league, while shooting 86.5 percent from the foul line, second best in the league. Her 147 made free throws led the league by a wide margin. Tomasso scored in double figures 24 times this season, had 12 games with at least 20 points and recorded 12 double-doubles. St. John Fisher compiled a 95-18 record in Tomasso's four seasons and won three E8 titles.
Camacho, a native of Spartanburg, SC, earned her second straight All-E8 first team accolade and surpassed the 1,000-career point milestone this season. She finished fourth in the league in scoring, averaging 17.3 points per game and grabbed 6.7 boards per contest, while dishing out 2.6 assists per game. Camacho has led Houghton to a 17-9 overall record with the Highlanders set to compete in the National Christian College Athletic Association Tournament. Over the past three years the Highlanders have won 58 games.
Jean-Baptiste, a native of Jersey City, NJ, was the Empire 8 Co-Defensive Player of the Year and earned All-E8 first team honors. She led an aggressive Brockport defense that forced 22.4 turnovers per game. Brockport’s opponents also shot just 33.7 percent from the floor in league play. Jean-Baptiste finished second in the league, averaging 2.4 steals per game. Jean-Baptiste also excelled on the offensive end, averaging 17.5 points per game, third best in the league, while shooting 47 percent from the floor and scoring in double figures 24 times.
Reigle, who hails from Batavia, NY, leads all of Division III, averaging 7.9 assists per game and setting the Empire 8 single-season record for assists in a season with 245, shattering a 17-year old record. She saved her best basketball for the postseason, averaging 15.3 points, 8.2 assists and 5.5 assists per game in six postseason contests. Reigle, who dished out at least 10 assists in a game 12 times this season, was named the Empire 8 Championship Tournament Most Valuable Player and scored a season-high 22 points in her final game against defending NCAA Champion NYU.
Suydam, a native of Sayville, NY, helped lead the Knights to the Empire 8 Championship and run to the NCAA Sweet 16. She averaged team-best totals of 11.8 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks per game in 2024-25. Suydam had five double-doubles on the season and pulled down a career-best 20 rebounds in just 24 minutes in Geneseo's NCAA Tournament win at Catholic University.
Jones and her staff of assistant coaches Scott Foster, Dyamon Hunter, Anna Felice and Zairea Hannah led the Golden Eagles to a 15-1 mark in league play, regular season title and top-seed in the Empire 8 Tournament. Brockport, who finished 24-5 overall, and earned an at-large berth in the 2025 NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Tournament, out-scored opponents by an average of 14.3 points per game this season (79.2-64.9) and led the league in rebounding (45.3 per game) and turnover margin (9.0 per game) by a wide margin.
Players were nominated for the D3hoops.com awards by the Sports Information Directors. The ballot was then made available to SIDs, who voted for a predetermined number of players in their region. Players from these lists are eligible for the
D3hoops.com All-America teams, which will be released Saturday, March 22.
