St. John Fisher Secures No. 1 Seed For E8 Men's Lacrosse Championship Tournament With Win Over Keuka

Cardinals will look to win their sixth straight league title next week

KEUKA PARK, NY – The St. John Fisher men's lacrosse team clinched the No. 1 seed for the Empire 8 Conference Championship Tournament with a 30-4 win over Keuka College on Wednesday evening at the Jephson Community Athletic Complex. 

With the victory, their eighth in a row, the Cardinals improved to 12-4 overall and 8-0 in conference play, while Keuka dropped to 3-11 (0-8 Empire 8). The Cardinals have won their last 45 games in a row against Empire 8 teams, a streak that includes regular-season and postseason contests. 

Senior Brady Mason matched his career high and led the Cardinals with eight points in the contest, scoring five goals and dishing out three assists. He moved up to sixth on the program's career points list (189). 

Fifth-year senior Timmy Salit, who had three goals and four assists, finished with seven points in the contest. He has 190 for his career, tied with Jack Mulvihill (2018-22) for the fifth-most in program history. 

How It Happened

  • The Cardinals exploded for 10 goals in the first quarter, with Mason and senior Ethan Kesselring scoring three times and Salit adding a pair. Fifth-year senior Jordan Leuze scored his first of three, and sophomore Sean Donaldson scored his lone goal of the game. 

  • The Cardinals continued to pile on the goals in the second quarter, as they added seven more tallies to take a 17–2 lead into the break. Leuze and sophomore Garrett Sutton scored twice in the second quarter. Salit, Mason and junior Keaton Piconi chipped in one goal apiece. 

  • Mason and Salit each had three assists in the first half. 

  • Sophomore Carter Van Holland scored five times and had an assist in the second half. Fresman Reece Millison scored twice. 

  • Freshman Sam Hambsch and junior Bryce Riffel scored their first collegiate goals in the third quarter. 

 Game Notes

  • Mason, who leads the Cardinals in goals (41) and total points (60), recorded his sixth game this season with five or more points. 

  • Salit needs just three more assists to pass Ian Evans (105 assists) for third on the program's all-time assists list. 

  • The Cardinals reached the 30-goal mark for the second time this season. They scored a program-record 32 goals against SUNY Poly on April 12. 

  • Van Holland, who also had an assist, set career highs in goals (5) and total points (6). 

  • Millison had his first collegiate multi-goal performance. 

  • Sophomore Scott Bovard had a season-high four points with a goal and three assists. 

  • Donaldson and graduate senior defender Joe Urlacher each caused three turnovers. The Cardinals caused a season-high 15 as a team. 

  • Fisher won 31 of 37 faceoffs, led by Riffel (16-for-21) and seniors Scott Reeves (11-for-12) and Jaden Tantillo (2-for-2).

  • Tyler Manning earned the win, allowing just two goals with three saves in 30 minutes of action. Sophomore Ian McIntyre and senior Jack Gullo each made one save. 

  • Fisher dominated in every category: 60-13 shots, 43-7 SOG, 52-18 ground balls, and 14-of-16 on clears.
