PITTSFORD, NY – Junior Sydney Closinski and sophomore Chelsea Lopata each tallied six points to lead the St. John Fisher women's lacrosse team to a 26-2 victory over Keuka on Wednesday evening at Growney Stadium.
The Cardinals, who locked up the No. 1 seed for the Empire 8 Conference Championship Tournament, improved to 15-0 overall (8-0 E8) with the victory. They will host the No. 4 or No. 5 seed (TBD) in the E8 Semifinals on Thursday, May 1.
The Cardinals have now won 20 consecutive regular-season games since the middle of last season and 62 in a row against Empire 8 teams since 2018 (counting regular season and postseason contests).
Closinski scored three goals and tallied three assists en route to her six points, a career high. Lopata matched her career high in points with four assists and two goals.
How It Happened

The Cardinals scored early and often, as they put five on the board in the first five minutes of a 10-goal first quarter. Seniors Emma Biel (3), Mario Fiorentino (3) and Farrah Zalla (2) each found the back of the net multiple times in the first 15 minutes of action. Senior Hanna Kumpf tallied two assists.

The Cardinals continued to hammer the Wolves in the second quarter, as they added seven more goals to take a 17-0 lead into halftime. Closinski scored twice and had an assist, while fellow junior Megan McGrath also had two goals.

Lopata and junior Dharma Makarowsky each scored their second goals of the game. Lopata had three assists in the first half.

Closinski scored her third goal of the game in the third quarter, while McGrath scored her third in the fourth. Closinski had two of her assists – one in the third and one in the fourth – in the second half.

Junior Alivia Nieman (2) and freshman Maddy Obstarczyk (2) each scored twice in the second half. Freshman Ally Stank scored her second of the game in the fourth quarter.

Sophomore Taylor Maxam and freshman Athena Lazina each scored once in the second half.
