No. 3 SUNY Geneseo and No. 4 Hartwick Advance to 2025 Empire 8 Men's Lacrosse Semifinals

Geneseo defeated No. 6 Alfred, while Hartwick rallied to defeat No. 5 SUNY Brockport in first round action

No. 3 seed SUNY Geneseo (11-6) and No. 4 seed Hartwick College (9-6) advanced to the 2025 Empire 8 Men's Lacrosse Semifinals after earning first round wins on Tuesday, April 29. SUNY Geneseo defeated No. 6 seed Alfred University, 16-7, while Hartwick from a late deficit to defeat No. 5 seed SUNY Brockport, 12-11.

SUNY Geneseo will travel to play No. 2 seed Nazareth in the first semfinal from NLPA Stadium on Thursday, May 1 at 4 p.m., while Hartwick will head West to play No. 1 seed St. John Fisher in the second semifinal at 7 p.m. Thursday. St. John Fisher defeated Hartwick, 28-4 on April 26, while Nazareth hung on for a 10-9 win over SUNY Geneseo on April 12.

The two semifinal winners will play in the E8 title game on Saturday, May 3, at the highest remaining seed. The winner will receive an automatic berth into the 2025 NCAA Division III Men’s Lacrosse Championship, which begins with first round games on May 7 and second and third round action, May 10-11.
 
NO. 3 SUNY GENESEO 16, NO. 6 ALFRED 7
After having the start of the game delayed by two hours due to storms and lightning in the area, the Knights out-scored Alfred 6-1 during the third quarter to break open a close game and earn its first E8 postseason win.

Ryan Trebing and Jimmy Atkinson led the Knights with four goals apiece. Trebing added two assists for a six-point evening, while Atkinson added an assist of his own. Riley Henselder matched Trebing's six points, with a two-goal, four-assist performance.

Sam Myung and Aidan Crane led the Geneseo defense with three caused turnovers apiece. Goalkeeper Andrew Tittmann made 10 saves to earn the win.

Keagan Hoesterey led the Saxons with three goals, while Hunter Cupp won 16-of-22 face-offs and had a game-high eight ground balls for Alfred, who finished the season with a 6-9 mark.

NO. 4 HARTWICK 12, NO. 5 SUNY BROCKPORT 11
Hartwick rallied from down 9-7 late in the third quatrer by scoring five of the next six goals, including three in a span of 1:39 midway through the fourth quarter to defeat SUNY Brockport and earn its first E8 postseason win since 2005.

Spencer Hogaboom (two goals, one assist) and Liam McManus (one goal, two assists) led the Hawks with three points apiece, while Tyler Nocito and Luke Ward scored two goals apiece. Kaiden Johnson made 14 saves between the pipes for the Hawks.

Pierson Jacobs led the Golden Eagles with four points on three goals and an assist, while Nate Askin had two goals and an assist. Nicolas Ange won 17-of-26 face-offs, while goalkeeper Jack Acker made 18 saves, including 14 in the opening half of play for Brockport, who had its season come to an end with an 8-9 mark.
