ROCHESTER, NY - The Nazareth men's lacrosse team clinched a share of the regular season Empire 8 title withits 23-7 win over Brockport, on Wednesday evening. With the win, Nazareth extends their winning streak to 10 games and improves their Empire 8 record to 8-0. The Golden Flyers clinch the No. 1 seed in the upcoming E8 Tournament and will play the winner of the No. 4 vs. No. 5 first round matchup in the E8 Semifinals on Thursday, April 30.
How It Happened:
- The Golden Flyers got on the board early as Kyle Rosenberger set up Matthew Farrington in front to give Nazareth the lead 55 seconds in.
- Nazareth immediately dictated the pace with a smothering defensive effort, forcing 10 turnovers in the first 10 minutes of the opening quarter. In transition, Nazareth capitalized by adding two more goals to extend the lead to 3-0. Kyle Rosenberger struck first, followed by George Monahan.
- In the final four and a half minutes of the first quarter, Nazareth opened the floodgates with goals from William O'Neill, Kyle Rosenberger, and George Monahan to lead 6-0 after one.
- A man up opportunity three minutes into the second quarter got Brockport on the board. Nazareth then responded just after as Kyle Rosenberger completed his hat-trick.
- Brockport fought back late in the second quarter, outscoring Nazareth 3-2 to make it a four goal game to start the third quarter.
- Nazareth then came out to start the second half by scoring three goals in under a three minute span to ignite a 10-0 run that lasted 14 minutes. During the Golden Flyer run, George Monahan and Matthew Farrington buried two goals while William O'Neill potted three.
- The Golden Flyers closed out the game by scoring four goals in the fourth quarter, helping them cruise to a 23-7 victory.
