HOUGHTON, N.Y. — Houghton University Director of Athletics Matthew Webb has announced the appointment of Richard Greco Jr. as the next head coach of the Highlanders men's and women's tennis programs.

Greco becomes the sixth head coach in the history of the combined program and brings extensive collegiate coaching experience, recruiting connections throughout Western New York, and a passion for student-athlete development to Houghton.

"I am excited to have Coach Greco join the team at Houghton," said Webb. "His experience in coaching and recruiting to the western NY area will serve him well as he transitions to Houghton. I am excited about his passion for investing in and developing student-athletes, not only as tennis players but more importantly as young men and women. His desire to integrate his faith into his coaching fits our departmental motto of 'Excellence for the Glory of God.'"

Greco arrives at Houghton after serving as head coach of the men's and women's tennis programs at Daemen University since 2020. During his tenure, he directed all aspects of both programs, including recruiting, practice planning, budgeting, travel coordination, fundraising, and compliance with NCAA and conference regulations. He was named East Coast Conference Coach of the Year in 2024 after leading continued growth and success within the Wildcats program.

In addition to his work on the court, Greco helped oversee the planning and construction of Daemen's first dedicated on-campus tennis courts and organized bi-annual community service projects in partnership with Veterans Affairs.

Greco also brings significant experience working with student-athletes and families throughout the region through his long-standing role as varsity tennis coach at Amherst Central High School, a position he has held since 2017.

He is a graduate of University at Buffalo with a degree in business administration and minors in finance and marketing.

"I am very excited about this next chapter in my coaching career and the opportunity to help student-athletes grow both in the classroom and on the court," said Greco. "My coaching philosophy has always centered on family, academics, and tennis, and I look forward to integrating faith into that foundation at Houghton. Tennis teaches valuable life lessons such as work ethic, communication, teamwork, and respect, and I am excited to help our student-athletes grow as competitors, leaders, and followers of Christ."
