PITTSFORD, NY – In a display of offensive brilliance that rewrote the history books, the SUNY Brockport Women's Basketball team capped off their weekend with a thrilling 91-84 victory over St. John Fisher University. While the afternoon belonged to a record-breaking individual performance by Stephanie Jean-Baptiste, the Golden Eagles (15-7, 11-2) utilized a complete team effort and a dominant mid-game surge to secure the road win at Manning-Napier Varsity Gym.

Record-Breaking Performance and Mid-Game Surge

The story of the afternoon was Stephanie Jean-Baptiste, who delivered a performance for the ages. Jean-Baptiste exploded for a career-high 41 points, breaking the long-standing single-game scoring record of 39 points set by Lisa Diaz in 1980. She was nearly automatic from the floor, shooting 15-of-19 (78.9%), including 2-of-4 from deep and a perfect 9-of-9 from the free-throw line. She finished one point shy of the Empire 8 single-game record of 42 points.

Brockport established control early, holding the lead for over 37 minutes of the contest. While the game saw three lead changes early on, the Golden Eagles orchestrated a clinical third quarter to pull away. Leading 51-49 in the third, Brockport locked in defensively to spark a scoring run that pushed the lead to a game-high 14 points (65-51) following a Brianna Carey free throw with 4:25 remaining in the period.

The Green and Gold's offensive efficiency was on full display throughout the middle periods, shooting 50% from the field in the second quarter and holding St. John Fisher to just 12 points in the third. Despite a late 30-point surge from the Cardinals in the final frame, Brockport remained composed at the charity stripe, where they went a perfect 8-of-8 in the fourth quarter to seal the win.

Statistical Leaders

While Jean-Baptiste's historic night provided the spark, this victory was anchored by a disciplined and cohesive unit with every contributor stepping up in crucial moments to keep the Cardinals at bay:
  • Stephanie Jean-Baptiste cemented her place in the history books with 41 points and anchored the defense with a team-high five steals while also cleaning up the glass with eight rebounds.
  • Brianna Carey provided high-level secondary scoring, finishing with 18 points on an efficient 6-of-12 shooting. Carey was clutch in the second half, contributing 11 points after the break to weather the Cardinals' late-game surge.
  • Mandy Brink orchestrated the offense with veteran poise, logging 13 points and a team-high four assists. Her defensive pressure was felt early as she recorded two of her three steals in the opening quarter alone.
  • Claire Turner and Casey Mahony were physical forces in the interior, each hauling in six boards to lead a rebounding effort that saw Brockport out-rebound the Cardinals 44-36. Turner also contributed six points and a block, while Mahony's three offensive boards provided crucial second-chance opportunities.
  • Jackie Kozakiewicz provided a massive spark off the bench with seven points and five rebounds. Her impact was felt most in the closing minutes, where she secured a critical defensive rebound and hit a clutch layup to help put the game out of reach.
  • Addy VanDeWater and Peyton Maneri rounded out the collaborative effort, with VanDeWater chipping in five rebounds and a timely three-pointer during the decisive third-quarter run. Maneri led the team with three assists alongside Brink, ensuring the ball moved effectively throughout the contest.
The Golden Eagles thrived in transition, netting 19 points off 21 St. John Fisher turnovers and dominating the interior to outscore the Cardinals 44-22 in the paint.
