Giddel Alvarado - Tomorrow's Leaders

Major: Business Administration

Class Year: Sophomore

Anticipated Graduation Date:
May, 2022

Favorite Professional Athlete/Professional Team: Sergio Ramos/Real Madrid

What Type of Community Service Have You Done: I have volunteered with Sage’s SAAC for the American Cancer Society Making Strides Walk. I also participated in Sage’s 2020 Why D3 Week and their activities for the virtual week including an Instagram takeover.

Plans After Graduation: After graduation I plan to keep extending my academic achievements by entering a graduate program. Also, I would like to enter the sports industry, in the marketing or management departments and possibly pursue a career in coaching or scouting.

What Do You See Yourself Doing in 5 Years:
I see myself with a degree in Business Administration, working in the sports industry in the marketing or management departments.

What Do You See Yourself Doing in 10-15 Years/What is Your Ultimate Professional Goal: I see myself with a stable job and a family. Hopefully I am able to open a soccer club or academy, help with the youth development and prepare high school soccer players for college ball. I would also like to create a program in which we are able to help kids that are having hard times in high school and prepare them to gain an athletic scholarship and potentially attend college. I want to give back to the community as much as I can because I have received help from other people as well.

How Has Playing Collegiately and in the Empire 8 Prepared You For Life After College: Playing in college and in the Empire 8 has molded me into a more mature person than I was before entering college. It has created a sense of responsibility and accountability on things I do on and off the field that will help me in my future jobs after college.

Favorite Athletic Memory from Your Time in College: My favorite memory was scoring my first collegiate goal against Baruch as a sophomore. The goal was the game-winner too! It definitely gave me and the team a boost of confidence because we needed to win that game.

Biggest On-Campus Mentor:
I have had two people on-campus that have advised me and shown me how to do many things, Coach Matt Esposito and Professor Bob Stulmaker. Coach Esposito has shown me the value of being responsible and accountable for my actions. Coach Esposito is a person that I can text at any time during the day for an advice. Professor Stulmaker is my mentor in the classroom setting. He is a very well-known person in the Capital Region Area. Professor Stulmaker has shown me the importance of making connections with important people and putting my name out in the real world.

What Have You Learned About Yourself in College:
I have learned to be accountable for my actions and that there is always a consequence for your actions; we choose if those consequences are good or bad. Also, not to take any moment for granted and listen to the advices of older people because they have a lot of knowledge that they have gained with experience in the world.

What Type of Leader Are You:
I consider myself as a transactional leader. I enjoy working with my teammates for a common goal.

One Thing Most People Do Not Know About You: One thing that most people do not know about me is that I moved from Honduras to the United States when I was 14 years old.

Advice for Freshmen Teammates or Student-Athletes: My advice for current and incoming freshmen is to be prepared to play college ball and to enjoy every single moment since the beginning because in the blink of an eye you will be entering your senior year. Also, to listen to the upperclassmen who already went through their freshmen year because they have a lot of knowledge and have been through many things with their programs.
