Elmira Rolls Past Keuka in Empire 8 Women's Volleyball Showdown

The Elmira College Women's Volleyball team returned to the win column in an important way on Wednesday evening, capturing a 3-1 victory over the Wolves from Keuka College. In four very competitive sets, the Soaring Eagles came up empty-handed in the opener before tallying three straight victories, moving to 2-1 in Empire 8 play.

TEAM RECORDS: Elmira (6-8, 2-1 E8), Keuka (5-11, 1-3 E8)
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
 The Soaring Eagles and Wolves dueled back and forth in the first set, with Elmira holding a close 18-17 advantage nearing the end of the set. Trailing by one, Keuka would score six consecutive points to take a 23-18 lead before the Purple & Gold scored four straight of their own to pull within one. After trading points, the Wolves would eventually take the opener 25-23.
 
The momentum shift to the Soaring Eagles with the score knotted at 14 in the second set, as Sydney Meyers '25 took the service platform for Elmira. Scoring four straight to take an 18-14 advantage which included two service aces from the left-handed right side, the Soaring Eagles took 11 of the next 13 points to take the second set 25-16.
 
EC went on to maintain momentum in the third and fourth sets, hitting their best percentages in the match while adding 22 kills to the ledger.
 
Asia Curkendall '25 contributed significantly to the Soaring Eagles, helping the home team by adding 31 assists, six digs, two service aces, and a block – all career-highs.
 
Sam Sprague '22 and Amelia Martin '23 led the way with eight kills apiece for the Purple & Gold while Maddie Hampton '24 added a career-high 28 digs on the defensive end.
 
UP NEXT:
Elmira returns to the court on Friday, October 8, when they take a trip to Central New York for a match with the Pioneers from Utica College. First serve is set for 6:00 PM inside the Harold T. Clark Athletic Center.
