Six teams will compete for the 2021 Empire 8 Men’s Golf Championship, which is scheduled to take place on Saturday, April 24 and Sunday, April 25 at Timber Banks Golf Club in Baldwinsville, NY with the first group of golfers teeing off both days at 11 a.m. St. John Fisher is looking to win its tenth straight Empire 8 crown. Elmira has a solid mix of veterans and newcomers who will look to give the Soaring Eagles their first league title. Jason Uebelacker, Derek Countryman, Ryan Reifler, Alex Crysler, Liam Sanborn and Kevin Silfee are all looking to earn All-Empire 8 honors. Countryman was Elmira’s representative on the 2019-20 Empire 8 Sportsman of the Year Team.
Nazareth returns Jake Costa, who was the 2019 Empire 8 Rookie of the Year and a two-time All-Empire 8 first team selection. He will vie for medalist honors this season. In addition, Nazareth will feature Jake Adams, the 2019 Empire 8 Men’s Soccer Player of the Year, Stephen Gabel, a two-time All-Empire 8 first team selection in men’s basketball, along with Tom McIntosh, Austin Stroup and JT Entelisano.
Oswego State will look to break through and win its first E8 title in program history. Ryan Fecco is back for the Lakers and will be joined on the course by steady performers Joseph Marszalek, Chris Sugar, Nathan Aldous, Olivier Wolland and Joe Pacheco.
Russell Sage returns 2019-20 All-Empire 8 second team selection Blake Pritchard, as he looks to earn all-league accolades for a second time in 2021. Stuart Phair, a standout on the men’s basketball team, along with Ethan Peters and Aidan O’Neil will also look to shoot low scores for the Gators.
St. John Fisher is looking to keep its E8 Championship streak intact this weekend. The Cardinals will have a new look in 2021, as five of their six competitors are competing in the league championship for the first time. Michael Dugan was an All-Empire 8 second team selection in 2019-20. Matt McGaugh and Luke Buckley have earned Empire 8 Golfer of the Week accolades this spring and will be joined in the lineup by Nick Tellone, Kyle Lubey and Benjamin McBane.
Utica was in the lead following the Fall portion of the 2019-20 E8 Championship before the Spring section was canceled due to COVID-19. The Pioneers return two All-Empire 8 first team selections from last season in Josh Kienz and Joe Miga. Both will attempt to garner medalist honors and earn their third all-conference accolades. Brandon Young will also look to earn all-league honors and will be joined by newcomers Nick Viconti, Adam Woodmansee and Brett Everson.
