PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Koltin Pickell, Utica, So., Ellenville, NY/Ellenville
Pickell and the Pioneers stayed close to home in two events over the past week, competing in the SUNY Poly Invitational on Monday and hosting SUNY Delhi in a dual match on Thursday. The Invitational proved to be a historic day for Utica golf, as the team turned in the lowest combined team score among available records. Leading the way, and placing 1st among 26 golfers, was Pickell with an even scorecard on the 6,472-yard, par-70 Teugega Country Club course. The sophomore birdied the opening hole, gave the stroke back on the third, and then closed his round with 15 consecutive pars. Pickell again led the Pioneers in the match with Delhi, shooting plus-6 on the 6,792-yard, par-71 layout at Yahnundasis Golf Club, good for a tie for fourth individually.
