The Empire 8 Conference announced its 2021-22 Men’s Golf All-Conference awards on Wednesday, April 20. First-year standout Bryce Barber of St. John Fisher College swept both the Player and Rookie of the Year awards, while Mike Howard of Oswego State was named the E8 Coach of the Year.

Empire 8 Champion St. John Fisher led the way with five all-conference selections, while Oswego was right behind with four, including a pair of first team picks. The awards were based on results from the 2021-22 Empire 8 Championship, in which the first two rounds took place on Oct. 2-3 at Timber Banks Golf Club in Baldwinsville, NY and final 36 holes were played April 15-16 at Hershey Country Club in Hershey, PA. St. John Fisher won its 17th Empire 8 Championship in program history and will compete at the 2022 NCAA Division III Championship, which will take place May 10-13 at Mission Inn Resort and Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, FL.

Barber rallied from four strokes down on the final day of the championship to win the individual medalist title and earn 2021-22 Empire 8 Player and Rookie of the Year honors by one stroke with a final score of 311 over the four rounds. Senior Ryan Fecco of Oswego earned runner-up honors for the second consecutive season en route to earning first team accolades.

Barber is the first student-athlete in Empire 8 men’s golf history to sweep Player and Rookie of the Year honors in the same season.

Oswego freshman Jake Owens, St. John Fisher senior Matthew McGaugh and Utica sophomore Adam Woodmansee rounded out the top-fove finishers to earn All-E8 first team accolades. Woodmansee was also a second team selection last season. Graduate student Blake Pritchard of Russell Sage College earned his third straight All-Empire 8 honor, while senior Joe Miga of Utica was an All-Empire 8 selection for the fourth straight year.

Howard helped guide Oswego to runner-up honors at the 2021-22 Empire 8 Championship. The Lakers made improvments in the spring after sitting in third place after the fall portion of the tournament and had two golfers earn All-E8 first team honors. It is the second time Howard has earned E8 Coach of the Year honors (2018-19).

One member of each team was named that institution's representative on the 2021-22 Men's Golf Sportsman of the Year Team. The Empire 8 Conference emphasizes that "Competing with Honor and Integrity" is an essential component of a student-athlete's experience in conjunction with an institution's educational mission. These honorees have distinguished themselves and consistently exhibit the critical traits as outstanding sportsmen.
