CLEVELAND, OH -- Kalamazoo College of Michigan made quick work of Nazareth Friday in a first-round men's tennis match in the NCAA Division III Tournament. The Hornets swept all three doubles matches on their way to a 6-0 victory over the Golden Flyers in a match played at Case Western Reserve University.

Making its first-ever post-season appearance following a thrilling 5-3 victory over Houghton in last week's Empire 8 Conference championship match, Nazareth watched its season draw to a close with an overall record of 12-5. Kalamazoo improved to 14-7 overall and advanced to Saturday's second round against Wisconsin-Whitewater at 12 p.m.

The Hornets won all three doubles matches in convincing fashion to take a commanding 3-0 lead into the singles matches. Ian Yi and Peter Fitzgerald combined to defeat Nazareth's top tandem of Nathan Allen and William Britton 8-2. Isiah McMurray and Dominic Vito lost by the same score at third doubles. At second doubles, Ryan Lalik and Tyler Luong lost 8-0.

Needing just two singles points to secure the match, Kalamazoo received straight set wins from Gabe Vidinis, Fitzgerald and Casey Johnson at third, fourth and fifth singles to win the match.

At sixth singles, Britton won the first set from the Hornets' Parker Foster and was up 5-1 in the second, but the match went unfinished.
