The Empire 8 Conference announced its 2023 Women’s Volleyball Championship All-Tournament Team on Tuesday, Nov. 14. Senior middle blocker Casey Grange of Alfred University was named the Empire 8 Tournament Most Valuable Player after leading the fifth-seeded Saxons to their first league title in program history over the weekend.
Grange slammed 30 kills, to go along with nine digs and two blocks, as Alfred won three E8 Tournament matches, all on the road to become the first No. 5 seed to win the title. Grange began the with seven kills in a three-set sweep of No. 4 Nazareth Tuesday. On Thursday, Grange added seven kills, four digs and a pair of blocks in a four-set win at No. 1 seed St. John Fisher University, snapping the Cardinals 48-match winning streak against E8 opponents, dating back to 2019. Grange saved her best for last on Saturday, hitting .308 with 16 kills points in the championship match against No. 3 Keuka College, including the match-clinching, fourth-set swing. She was one of three Alfred student-athletes to earn All-Tournament Team honors.
