The Empire 8 Conference announced its 2022-23 Men’s Golf All-Conference awards on Wednesday, April 19. League Champion St. John Fisher University swept the three individual major awards honors as junior Nick Tellone was named Player of the Year, Benjamin Fox earned Rookie of the Year home, while Bob Simms was named the E8 Coach of the Year.

The Cardinals led the way with five all-conference selections, including four first team picks, while runner-up SUNY Oswego was right behind with four all-league honors. The awards were based on results from the 2022-23 Empire 8 Championship, in which the first two rounds took place on Oct. 1-2 at Timber Banks Golf Club in Baldwinsville, NY and final 36 holes were played April 15-16 at Hershey Country Club in Hershey, PA. St. John Fisher won its 18th Empire 8 Championship in program history and will compete at the 2023 NCAA Division III Championship, which will take place May 16-19 at Keene Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville, KY.

Tellone trailed by two strokes after the first two rounds in the fall before carding a 4-under par 67 in the third round on April 15 to take a commanding lead into the final round. Overall, Tellone shot a 300 (+14) during the four rounds to win the individual title by 10 strokes. He is the 11th different Cardinal to win E8 Player of the Year honors.

Fox was named Empire 8 Rookie of the Year after finishing tied for second overall over the four rounds with a score of 310. Fox shot an 82 during the first round, identical scores of 77 over the second and third rounds and finished with a 74 during the final round. Fox is the 10th different Cardinal to win E8 Rookie of the Year honors.

Graduate student Ryan Fecco of Oswego tied Fox for runner-up honors, earning that status for the third consecutive season en route to earning first team accolades. Fecco was the low scorer in three of the four rounds during tournament play, including a 73 in the final round.

St. John Fisher sophomore Joe DePasquale, SUNY Oswego sophomore Jake Owens and second-year standout RJ Juodatis of St. John Fisher rounded out the top-five finishers to earn All-E8 first team accolades. DePasquale placed fourth overall, while Owens and Juodatis tied for fifth. Owens was also an All-E8 first team selection in 2021-22. Juodatis was a second team pick last year.

Simms helped guide St. John Fisher to its 18th Empire 8 Championship. The Cardinals rolled to a 47-stroke victory and had four golfers earn All-E8 first team honors. It is the tenth time Simms has earned E8 Coach of the Year honors and first since the 2017-18 season.

One member of each team was named that institution's representative on the 2022-23 Men's Golf Sportsman of the Year Team. The Empire 8 Conference emphasizes that "Competing with Honor and Integrity" is an essential component of a student-athlete's experience in conjunction with an institution's educational mission. These honorees have distinguished themselves and consistently exhibit the critical traits as outstanding sportsmen.
