ROCHESTER, NY – Nazareth University athletics is pleased to announce Jake Burgio '19 as the first full-time men's and women's golf head coach.

The 2019 graduate of Nazareth will take the reins of the golf program after teaching for the last three years and serving as a part-time assistant coach for the men's basketball program.

Burgio played varsity golf at Brockport High School where he helped lead the program to a division championship in his senior campaign. Since competing in high school, Burgio has continued to develop his golf skills and knowledge of the game and is currently a member at Stafford Country Club.

Jake pursued men's basketball at Nazareth where he was a standout player for four seasons, amassing 1,178 career points earning first team all-conference twice. In 2017-18, he helped the Golden Flyers capture the Empire 8 title and a berth to the NCAA Tournament.

"I am truly grateful and excited to coach the Nazareth golf programs," said Burgio. "As a Nazareth University alum, I am honored to be a part of the amazing community that Nazareth offers. I plan to bring my experiences as a former teacher and coach to help men's and women's golf succeed in the Empire 8 Conference!"

As an assistant coach for the men's basketball team for two seasons, Burgio worked closely with player development and created workouts to help members reach their potential. Nazareth won Empire 8 championship in his first year as an assistant coach.

"I'm thrilled to have Jake come on board and have him instill his lessons of culture, teamwork, and development to the golf program," said athletics director Pete Bothner.
