The fall portion of the 2024-25 Empire 8 Men’s Golf Championship is set to take place on October 6-7 at Lakeshore Yacht & Country Club in Cicero, NY. Each of the eight Empire 8 teams will play 36 holes of golf this weekend, 18 holes on Sunday and 18 on Monday with tee times beginning at 11 a.m. both days. This weekend marks the first half of the 2024-25 championship, with the 36-hole spring portion of the E8 Championship scheduled for April 2025. The team with the lowest score at the conclusion of the four rounds will be crowned league champion. The 2024-25 Empire 8 Champion receives an automatic berth into the 2025 NCAA Division III Men’s Golf Championship, set for May 20-23 at Midvale Country Club in Penfield, NY, hosted by St. John Fisher University
St. John Fisher will look to win its 20th Empire 8 title this season. A host of golfers will compete for All-Empire 8 accolades, led by graduate student Nick Tellone and senior RJ Juodaitis. Tellone was the Empire 8 Individual Champion and was the Empire 8 Player of the Year in 2022-23. He also garnered E8 Player of the Week honors on Sept. 30 after carding a -1 at The Northeast Elite Championship. Juodaitis is a three-time All-Empire 8 selection, having earned first team honors in each of the last two seasons and second team honors in 2021-22. He finished fifth at last year’s championship. First-year standout Nick Years, junior Keegan Smith, Joe DePasquale and Jack Doran will compete for All-E8 accolades.
SUNY Oswego will look to vault to the top of the Empire 8 leaderboard this season after placing second the past three seasons. Senior Tyler Donohue returns after garnering All-E8 third team honors in 2022-23 and second team accolades in 2023-24, finishing 10th overall. In addition, junior Evan McDonald, Jacob Banks, John O’Neill and Rowen Lynch will lead the way for 2023-24 Empire 8 Coach of the Year Mike Howard. Senior Michael Douglas, a former Division I golfer, was the E8 Player of the Week on Sept. 9 and will vie for top honors.
Utica will look to win its second E8 title as the 2024-25 Championship gets underway. Adam Woodmansee returns, looking to earn All-Empire 8 honors for a fifth straight season. He was a second team pick in Spring 2021, 2023 and 2024 after garnering first team accolades in 2022. He was the individual champion at the SUNY Poly Wildcat Invitational on Sept. 20. The Pioneers will also return 2024 All-E8 second team pick Nathan Macdonald and third team selection Neil Roman. Daniel Maloney, Louis Roman and Joey Bagnato will also be counted on to make an impact.
Russell Sage will look to improve off its fourth-place finish last year at the E8 Championship. Senior Shane Kammerman, a 2022-23 All-E8 third team pick, is set to make an impact, along with Elijah Waterhouse. Ryan Arp, an All-Empire 8 third team selection is back to help lead the Gators. Both Waterhouse and Arp recorded top-five finishes at the SUNY Poly Wildcat Invitational on Sept. 20. Devin Gilbert, Luke Finlan and Anthony Rizzo will also contend for the Gators.
The Golden Flyers of Nazareth are ready to make a run towards the upper tier of the E8 Championship standings in 2024-25. Sophomore Lincoln Crosby was named the 2023-24 Empire 8 Rookie of the Year and earned All-E8 first team accolades after finishing third at the Empire 8 Championships. Junior Vincent Falgiatano was named the E8 Player of the Week on Sept. 23 after winning medalist honors at the Keuka College Fall Invitational
. Charlie Calcagni won the individual title at the Oswego State Fall Invitational on Sept. 28-29. Graduate student Thomas McIntosh earned All-E8 third team honors last season. Nazareth graduate transfer Anthony Falgiatano, older brother of Vincent who played at Division I LeMoyne College will also vie for All-E8 accolades in addition to Parker Watson.
Keuka is expecting to improve in the standings as the 2024-25 E8 Championship gets underway. First-year Stephen Carr and Cam Hovater in addition to senior Ethan Drinon and junior Dawson Miletich will be expected to lead the way for the Wolves. Nathan Gilette and Tyler Green are also set to compete. Keuka set a program record for low team score in its home invitational on Sept. 17.
New affiliate member SUNY Canton also makes its E8 Championship debut this weekend. The Roos were in action this past weekend at the Oswego State Fall Invitational, with John McCall, Brody Fuhrey, Ben Wiley, Donald Cordova, and Kyle Murphy leading the way. Canton placed third overall at the SUNY Poly Wildcat Invitational on Sept. 20. Kahontilo Lazore was a top-five individual finisher at the Wildcat Invitational and will also look to vie for All-E8 honors.
SUNY Poly makes its Empire 8 Championship debut this weekend. Jack Montayne was the top Poly finishers at its home invite on Sept. 20. Ryan Peters, Blake Pugh, Josh Slater, Ryan Waring and Dustin Hopler will vie for All-E8 accolades this season.
