Hartwick Holds Slim Lead after Friday at 2024 Empire 8 Men's Swimming and Diving Championships

WEBSTER, NY – Hartwick College continues to lead after day three of the 2024 Empire 8 Men’s Swimming and Diving Championship, held in conjunction with the Allegheny Empire Championships at the Webster Aquatic Center on Friday, February 16.
 
The Hawks have 706 team points to hold a 37-point lead over defending champion Alfred University, who has 669 points after Friday night and Nazareth University, who has 397.
 
Boden Tito of Hartwick opened the evening by winning the 400-yard individual medley in a time of 4:10.52. Two-time reigning E8 Swimmer of the Year Mikey Schultz took the 100-yard butterfly in a speedy time of 49.04 seconds. Teammate Hassan Abdelwahed also won the 100-yard breaststroke, hitting the wall first in a time of 56.68 seconds.
 
Nazareth’s Ryan Hough repeated as 200-yard freestyle winner in a time of 1:42.65. Will LaMastus of Alfred earned the win in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 52.02.
 
LaMastus earned his second win of the night, teaming with his brother, Wade LaMastus, Colby Watkins, Emmanuel Drappatz to give Alfred a victory in the 400-yard medley relay in 3:27.48.
 
Jack Armstrong of Hartwick won his second diving title of the weekend and fourth in the last two years, this time taking the 1-meter event with a score of 439.05.
 
Day four action begins with the prelims at 10 am on Saturday. Action concludes with the finals events at 5 pm.
