Hartwick Men and Nazareth Women Continue to Lead After Day Three of 2024 Allegheny Empire Swimming and Diving Championships

WEBSTER, NY – The Hartwick College men and Nazareth University women lead after day three of the 2024 Allegheny Empire 8 Swimming and Diving Championship, held at the Webster Aquatic Center on Friday, February 16.
 
Just 74 points separates the top four teams. Hartwick leads the men’s championship with 706 points, just ahead of Penn State Behrend, who has 677.5 points after Friday. Alfred University (669 and Alfred State College (632)  are well within striking range of the lead, while Nazareth University (397) rounds out the top five.
 
Tim Compton of Penn State Behrend won the 400-yard individual medley for the third consecutive season, crushing the field by just under nine seconds, while break his own meet with a time of 4:01.54.
 
Hartwick’s Mikey Schultz earned a decisive win in the 100-yard butterfly, also setting a new meet record with a time of 49.04 seconds. Teammate Hassan Abdelwahed also broke a meet record in winning the 100-yard breaststroke, hitting the wall first in 56.68 seconds.
 
Nazareth’s Ryan Hough led wire-to-wire in the 200-yard freestyle, winning the race by just under two seconds in 1:42.65.
 
Anthony Tumino earned a close win in the 100-yard backstroke by just over a half-second in a time of 51.48.
 
Alfred State’s Conor Compton made it a clean sweep in the diving events for the week as he won the men’s 1-meter diving with a score of 518.95.
 
Tim Compton and Tumino made it two wins on the night, teaming with Glenn Fowkes and Will Perham to take the 400-yard medley relay in 3:25.15.
 
Three-time defending champion Nazareth leads the women after Friday with 722 points, just ahead of Penn State Behrend, who has 692.5. Alfred State College is third with 551 points, while Hartwick is fourth (548) and Alfred University is fifth (351).
 
Camryn Watters of Penn State Behrend set a new championship record, earning a decisive win in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 57.70 seconds.
 
Emma Merick of Alfred State began the evening with a narrow win in the 400-yard individual medley, touching the wall first in 4:46.66. Her teammate, Madison Snayczuk earned the win in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:57.95.
 
Jadyn Danylko of Penn State Behrend took the 100-yard fly in a time of 59.33 seconds, while Courtney Pierce of Hartwick earned the victory in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:06.75.
 
Alfred State’s 400-yard medley relay team of Alyssa James, Mikaela Snayczuk, Mallory O’Keefe and Madison Snayczuk won by two seconds in a time of 4:01.63.
