Spring Portion of 2023-24 Empire 8 Men’s Golf Championship to Take Place April 13-14 at Hershey Country Club

The final two rounds of the 2023-24 Empire 8 Men’s Golf Championship are set to take place from Hershey Country Club in Hershey, PA on April 13-14. St. John Fisher University holds a 24-stroke lead over SUNY Oswego after the Fall portion of the 2023-24 Empire 8 Championship. Fans can follow along on the Golf Genius app using the code E8CHAMP.
 
Fall scores will combined with scores from rounds three and four this weekend to determine team and individual awards. The 2023-24 Empire 8 Men’s Golf Team Champion earns an automatic berth into the 2024 NCAA Division III Men’s Golf Championship, set for May 14-17 at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, NV. Two-time Defending Champion St. John Fisher will look to win its 19th Empire 8 title this season, while Utica will attempt to win its second league crown. Nazareth University is the only other E8 institution to win a men’s golf championship, earning back-to-back titles in 2002 and 2003.
 
St. John Fisher holds an 24-stroke lead (615) over SUNY Oswego (639) heading into this weekend’s action. The 2023-24 Empire 8 Fall Men’s Golf Championship was held at Cazenovia Country Club in Cazenovia, NY on October 8-9. Utica University, Elmira College, Russell Sage College, Keuka College and Nazareth University are also set to compete this weekend.
 
St. John Fisher junior Bryce Barber, the 2021-22 E8 Champion, holds the individual lead after the first 36 holes, with a 10-over-par score of 152 strokes. He shot a four-over-par 75 in the opening round and six-over-par 77 in the second round. Barber holds a two-stroke lead over fellow St. John Fisher teammates Luke Buckley and Benjamin Fox.

AWARDS: The Empire 8 champion will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship. The top five scorers at the end of the tournament (who played in all four rounds) will earn first-team all-conference honors with the next five finishers being named to the second team. Finishers 11-15 will earn third team accolades. The individual with the lowest four-round score will be named Empire 8 Player of the Year, while the lowest scoring first-year student-athlete will earn Empire 8 Rookie of the Year honors.

THE COURSE: The Hershey Country Club was founded by iconic chocolate entrepreneur Milton S. Hershey in 1930. The club has grown since its founding, as the private club now features three separate pristine 18-hole courses. The E8 Championship will feature the club's East Course, which opened in 1969 and lays claim to over 100 bunkers scattered throughout the rolling fairways.  The club and its expansive views have welcomed some of the sport's all-time greats, including Byron Nelson, Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer.
