St. John Fisher Wins 2023-24 Empire 8 Men’s Golf Championship

Cardinals earn third straight team title and 19th in program history; Benjamin Fox wins individual title

St. John Fisher University used a balanced scoring attack to win the 2023-24 Empire 8 Men’s Golf Championship, with four of the top five finishers, which concluded at Hershey Country Club in Hershey, PA on April 14. The Cardinals defeated runner-up Oswego State by 66 strokes to win their  third straight Empire 8 Championship and 19th in program history.

Scores from the fall portion of the Empire 8 Championship, which was held at Cazenovia Country Club in Cazenovia, NY on Sunday, Oct. 8 and Monday Oct. 9, 2023 were combined with scores from rounds three and four this weekend to determine team and individual awards.

St. John Fisher, the 2023-24 Empire 8 Men's Golf team receives an automatic berth into the 2024 NCAA Division III Men’s Golf Championship, set for May 14-17 at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, NV.

The Cardinals recorded a final team score of 1,250 strokes to win by 66 strokes over runner-up SUNY Oswego (1,315). The Cardinals posted a team-best score of 305 (+21) for the final round, 26 strokes ahead of Oswego. Utica finished third overall with a team total of 1,328 strokes.

After windy, blustery cloudy conditions persisted for round three Saturday, sunny, warm conditions prevailed for the final round.
 
St. John Fisher sophomore Benjamin Fox shot a four-over-par 75 on Sunday to complete the four-round event with a top score of 309 strokes and earn individual medalist honors. Fox won the individual title by six strikes over teammate Luke Buckley, who had the low round of 74 (+3) on Sunday.

Nazareth University first-year Lincoln Crosby placed third overall with a four-round score of 319, one of ahead of St. John Fisher's Joe DePasquale. Fellow St. John Fisher student-athlete RJ Juodaitis rounded out the top-five with a four-day total of 322.

Below are the team scores and top individual scores from the fall championship. The Empire 8 All-Conference selections and individual award winners will be announced by the conference next week. The top five scorers at the end of the tournament will earn first-team all-conference honors with the next five finishers being named to the second team. Finishers 11-15 will earn third team accolades.
