Nazareth pole vault coach Zach Ferrara has been named the Niagara Region Women's Assistant Coach of Year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCA).
Ferrara has helped develop a dominant women's pole vault squad for the Golden Flyers that took the top three spots at the Outdoor Empire 8 Championships in Rosie Morse, Isabel Morse, and Kiara Tornusciolo. Nazareth went on to win its second consecutive outdoor championship.
The third-year assistant coach also helped Rosie Morse set the school record and qualify for Thursday's NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships. She had a jump of 3.73 meters (12' 2 ¾") to take first at the AARTFC Championships last week to help earn the NCAA Championship nod.
Ferrara has helped guide many of the vaulters to personal bests this season.
