SUNY Geneseo Wins 2026 Empire 8 Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships

Nationally-ranked SUNY Geneseo won the 2026 Empire 8 Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championship from the Polisseni Track and Field Campus on the Campus of St. John Fisher University on Friday, May 1 and Saturday, May 2. Geneseo, who won its second straight E8 title, finished with 275 points, while host St. John Fisher finished second with 153 points and Nazareth University was third with 150.5 points.
 
The Knights had nine individuals/relay teams win events and set four Empire 8 Championships over the two-day meet.
 
St. John Fisher sophomore sprinter Abigail Dorunda was named the 2026 Empire 8 Outdoor Track Athlete of the Meet. She took the 100-meter dash in a time of 12.25 seconds and was part of the winning 4 x 100-meter relay team (48.38 seconds). Dorunda was also part of the 4 x 400-meter relay team that placed second, while she also finished third in the 200-meters (25.44 seconds) and placed sixth in the 400-meters (59.45 seconds).
 
Utica University sophomore Allie Cary was named the 2026 E8 Empire 8 Women's Outdoor Championship Field Athlete of the Meet. Cary won both the shot put with a hurl of 13.10 meters (42’ 11.75”) and discus with a throw of 42.72 meters (140’ 2”). She also placed fourth overall in the hammer throw with a toss of 45.76 meters (150’ 1”).
 
Geneseo’s Mackenzie Kubat shattered the Empire 8 record in the heptathlon, winning by nearly 1,000 points with a score of 4,800 points, which moved her into the top-15 nationally. She won five of the seven events over the weekend.
 
Sierra Doody won the 800-meters in a meet record time of 2:10.43, leading a 1-2-3-4 charge for the Knights in the event. Shelby Boise of the Knights won the 1,500-meters in a meet record time of 4:37.69. Sophia Barclay took the 400-meter hurdles by just 35 one-hundredths of a second over defending E8 Champion Lexi Rodriguez of SUNY Brockport in a time of 1:03.49. In addition, senior Ann Brennan won the 5,000-meters by 23 seconds in a time of 17:35.24. The Knights claimed six of the eight podium spots in the event.
 
 
Geneseo’s 4 x 400-meter relay team of Stella Riley, Nicole Gretzinger, Hannah Wierer and Dakota Limbert earned the win in a time of 3:55.71.


St. John Fisher’s 4 x 100-meter relay team of Makenna Manson, Dorunda, Ella Radley and Emily Heiner opened the day by winning in a time of :48.38 seconds. Dorunda also annexed the 100-meter dash in 12.25 seconds. Kianna Naval of the Cardinals claimed the triple jump title with a leap of 11.46 meters.
 
Utica’s Hannah Allison won the high jump with an impressive leap of 1.64 meters, while Cary was a dual winner in the shot put and discus.
 
Samantha Luba of Nazareth University won the 100-meter hurdles by 46 one-hundredths of a second over teammate Amber Hayes in a time of 14.83 seconds.
