CONWAY, SC - For a second consecutive outdoor season, Jane Fahy has captured All-American status following her third place shot put finish (14.65 meters) at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Friday from Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium.
It's Fahy's third career and consecutive All-American honor as she adds to her 2023 outdoor one and 2023-24 indoor one. This past indoor season, her second place finish was the highest finish ever for any Utica University team or individual athlete.
Competing in the second flight, Fahy jumped ahead of the leaderboard following her first attempt of 14.65 meters. Despite a fault on her next attempt and a mark of 14.52 meters on her third, Fahy entered the finals still in first place.
The graduate student reached 14.50 meters on her fourth attempt and remained in first following her fifth go-around on what resulted in a fault.
Entering the final attempts, Fahy's lead was overtaken by champion Alexis Boykin (15.44 meters) and runner-up Molly Laumakis (14.73 meters) to drop two spots into third place. Both Boykin and Laumakis set personal bests with their marks.
While her final throw went 14.23 meters, Fahy was solidified as a top-three finisher to capture back-to-back outdoor All-American honors, as well as back-to-back top-three NCAA finishes. Her finish and distance improved upon her visit to outdoor nationals in 2023 where she placed sixth with a mark of 14.28 meters.
Fahy's third place finish gives the women's team six points at the meet. The team's final placement will be determined on Saturday evening at the conclusion of the championships.
