Norwich University to Host SUNY Delhi in 2025 Empire 8 Men’s Tennis East Division First Round Contest Saturday

Norwich University is set to host SUNY Delhi in the opening round of the 2025 Empire 8 Men’s Tennis Tournament at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 26 from Shapiro Field House. Norwich is the No. 2 seed in the Empire 8’s East Division, while SUNY Delhi is the No. 3 seed. The winner will advance to the Empire 8 Semifinal against the No. 1 seed in the West Division on Friday, May 2.
 
Thomas College is the No. 1 seed in the East Division and will play the winner of the West Division First Round match, which is scheduled for Tuesday, April 29. Houghton University, Nazareth University and SUNY Oswego have advanced to the Empire 8 Tournament from the West Division, with final seedings to determined after the regular season finale on April 26.
 
Houghton, the two-time defending E8 Champion, is looking for its fourth league title in the last five seasons.
 
The top-seed in the West is set to host the semifinals and championship and will play the lowest remaining East Division team in one semifinal on Friday, May 2, while the East No. 1 seed will play the lowest remaining West Division team in the second semifinal. The two semifinal winners will meet for the 2025 Empire 8 Championship on Saturday, May 3. The Empire 8 Champion will receive an automatic berth into the 2025 NCAA Men’s Tennis Championship, which begins on Friday, May 9

Saturday, April 26 (First Round at Norwich University)
East No. 3 SUNY Delhi at East No. 2 Norwich University – 11 a.m.

Format: Dual match is played until decision (5 points) Three doubles matches are followed by six singles matches. No-ad scoring for both singles and doubles matches. Singles matches will play two out of three sets. Doubles play eight pro set with a twelve-point tiebreaker at 7-all.

Norwich enters the tournament with a 9-3 overall record and 4-1 mark in E8 East Division play. Terrance Bayly-Henshaw is 10-0 on the season at second singles and has teamed with Jaxson Redmond to record an 8-1 mark at first doubles. Redmond is also 10-1 in singles, playing the majority of the season at the third position, while Keegan Bakke is 9-1 at first singles. Both Bakke and Bayly-Henshaw were 5-0 at singles in E8 play during the regular season. It is Norwich’s first season as an Empire 8 member for men’s tennis.
 
SUNY Delhi, also in its first season as an Empire 8 men’s tennis member, finished 3-2 in E8 East Division play. The Broncos rattled off a four-match winning streak earlier in the month. First-year standouts Nolan Kleinsasser and Nicholas Vanhouten are both tied for the team lead with four singles wins. Vanhouten and Gavin Bonczkowski each have five doubles victories.
 
Norwich defeated Delhi earlier in the regular season by a score of 8-1 on March 29. Bakke, Bayly-Henshaw, Redmond and Gabe Wettig earned wins at both singles and doubles for the Cadets, while the duo of Kleinsasser and Bonczkowski earned a win at second doubles for Delhi.
