SUNY Geneseo Wins 2025 Empire 8 Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships

Nationally-ranked SUNY Geneseo won the 2025 Empire 8 Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championship from Bob Boozer Field at Eunice Kennedy Shriver Stadium on the Campus of SUNY Brockport on Friday, May 2 and Saturday, May 3. Geneseo finished with 331 points, while host SUNY Brockport finished second with 149.5 points and St. John Fisher was third with 122 points.
 
The Knights had 13 individuals/relay teams win events and set six Empire 8 Championships over the two-day meet.
 
Geneseo senior distance standout Penelope Greene was named 2025 Empire 8 Outdoor Track Athlete of the Meet after sweeping the 5,000- and 10,000-meter long distance events. On Friday night, Greene won the 10,000-meter run by over 20 seconds in a time of 38:13.69 and on Saturday, set a new championship meet record in the 5,000-meters, winning by nine seconds in a time of 16:39.34.
 
Geneseo sophomore Jill Ambler was named the 2025 E8 Empire 8 Women's Outdoor Championship Field Athlete of the Meet. On Friday, Ambler won the long jump with a leap of 5.90 meters, which was just shy of the Championship meet record and moved her into a tie for 11th nationally in the event. On Saturday, Ambler cruised to the win in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 14.51 seconds. She also was part of Geneseo’s 4 x 100-meter relay team that set an all-time Empire 8 record with a time of 47.38 seconds.
 
Geneseo’s 4 x 100-meter relay team of Lindsay Tellez, Brynn Mooney, Ambler, Kayla Huba, SUNY Geneseo opened the day by setting the all-time E8 record in the event, winning in a time of  :47.38 seconds. The 4 x 400-meter relay team of Janelle Eckl, Nicole Gretzinger, Ava Bagley and Brynn Mooney set an E8 championship mark in winning the event in 3:55.50.
 
Eckl also took the 800-meters in a meet record time of 2:12.27, while teammate Sierra Doody won the 1,500-meters in 4:39.29. On the field side, Geneseo’s Peyton Mehalick won the shot put, while Skyler Klimow annexed the discus throw.

Houghton University standout Victoria Brewster, Houghton took the 100-meters in a time of 11.99, while teammate Alexa Belanger won the high jump with an impressive leap of 1.71 meters, just shy of the E8 Championship record of 1.72 meters.

SUNY Brockport standout Lexi Rodriguez, SUNY Brockport broke an Empire 8 Championship record in winning the 400-meter hurdles in a quick time of 1:02.84, while teammate Marissa Wise took the 200-meters in 24.84 seconds.

Katie Jacques of Nazareth won the triple jump with a leap of 11.40 meters, while Stefania Grimaldi, Utica University won the heptathlon with a score 3,868 points. She was the top E8 finisher in the long jump and javelin throw on Saturday.
