SUNY Oswego men's tennis and the Hartwick College women's tennis programs will represent the Empire 8 in the 2025 Division III Tennis Championships, which begin on Friday, May 9. Hartwick won the Empire 8 Women's Tennis Championship to earn the automatic qualifier back in October, while Oswego won its first E8 men's title on May 3.
SUNY OSWEGO
West No. 2 seed SUNY Oswego (11-3) rolled to a 5-1 win over West No. 1 seed Nazareth University (12-8) in the 2025 Empire 8 Men's Tennis Championship match from the Goilsano Training Center on the campus of Nazareth University on Saturday, May 2. Oswego receives an automatic berth into the 2025 NCAA Division III Men’s Tennis Championship. Oswego rallied to win two of three doubles matches and took wins at first, second, and third singles to win its first Empire 8 Championship in its first season as a league member.
The Lakers (11-3) face Amherst College (15-7) at 4 p.m. at the Medford, Mass. Regional, hosted by Tufts Uuniversity. They will play at Bass River Courts in Beverly, MA. The Mammoths won the NESCAC Conference Championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2019. The winner of the match will move on to play RPI on Saturday, May 10.
HARTWICK
No. 1 seed Hartwick College earned its second Empire 8 Championship in the last three seasons, defeating No. 2 seed SUNY Geneseo by a score of 5-0 in the title match from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Saturday, Oct. 19. Hartwick earned the Empire 8's automatic bid into the 2025 NCAA Division III Women’s Tennis Championship.
The Hawks (14-3) face The College of New Jersey (12-6) at 2 p.m. at the Bowdoin College Regional in Brunswick, Maine. TCNJ won the NJAC Tournament in the fall for their 29th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance. The winnner of the match will move on to play Bowdoin on Saturday, May 10.
