St. John Fisher Locks Up No. 1 Seed In Empire 8 Men's Tennis West Division With 4-3 Win Over Alfred

ALFRED, NY – The St. John Fisher men's tennis team secured the No. 1 seed in the Empire 8 West Division for the conference's upcoming championship tournament with a 4-3 road victory over Alfred on Saturday afternoon. The Cardinals extended their winning streak to eight games – tied with the 1998 team for the longest in program history – and improved to 9-3 (7-0 Empire 8) with the victory. 

Alfred claimed the doubles point, taking two of the three matches, but the Cardinals came back with four victories in singles action. 

Freshman Matthew Lincoln beat Breece Erickson in straight sets in third singles, freshman Sebastian Dix topped Anlun Zwerver in straight sets in fourth singles and senior Sean Brown earned a straight sets win over Matt Bittel in fifth singles. Sophomore Charlie Roberts gutted out a three-set victory over Josh Erickson in sixth singles to secure the dual win for the Cardinals.

  • Lincoln moved to 7-5 in singles, while Roberts improved to 6-3.
