NORTHFIELD, VT - The Norwich University men's tennis team continued its historic spring on Saturday morning, defeating SUNY Delhi in the First Round of the 2026 Empire 8 Men's Tennis Championship Tournament inside Shapiro Fieldhouse.

With the victory, Norwich improves to 13-3 overall, setting a new program record for wins in a single season.  The Cadets, who entered the postseason as the East Division's No. 2 seed, now advance to the Empire 8 Semifinals and will travel to Thomas College on Friday, May 1, to face West Division top seed St. John Fisher University at a time to be determined.

Norwich established control early and never let SUNY Delhi gain a foothold, sweeping all three doubles courts to claim the opening point.

The Cadets picked up the first result of the morning at No. 3 doubles, where Diego Lorente Fuentes (Valencia, Spain) and Lily Walker (Marstons Mills, Mass.) earned a 6-4 victory over Luke Moloney and Gavin Bonczkowski.  Norwich followed with another strong showing at No. 2, as Stephen Hartigan (Tyngsboro, Mass.) and Juan Gonzalez Torres (Toa Alta, Puerto Rico) outlasted Nolan Kleinsasser and Devin Guerrieri by a 7-5 score.

At the top flight, Jaxson Redmond (Kennebunkport, Maine) and Terrance Bayly-Henshaw (Scottsville, N.Y.) completed the doubles sweep with a 7-5 win over Benjamin Andersen and Nicholas VanHouten, sending Norwich into singles play with the early advantage.

That momentum carried directly into singles competition.

Redmond was first off the court at No. 1 singles, rolling past Andersen by a 6-0, 6-1 score to extend the Norwich lead.  Bayly-Henshaw followed soon after at No. 2, defeating VanHouten, 6-1, 6-3, to push the Cadets closer to the finish line.

Lorente Fuentes then delivered another key point at No. 3 singles, battling through a competitive opening set before closing out a 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 victory over Kleinsasser.  SUNY Delhi picked up its lone point of the match at No. 4 singles, where Guerrieri defeated Hartigan, 7-5, 6-2.

Norwich answered again on the lower courts.  Walker turned in a dominant 6-1, 6-1 result against Moses Rojas at No. 6, while Gonzalez Torres added a composed 6-4, 6-2 win over Moloney at No. 5 to round out the Cadets' singles success.

The Cadets' complete team effort proved decisive throughout the morning, as Norwich improved upon two earlier 4-3 battles against the Broncos with a far more convincing postseason showing on its home courts.

Saturday's result also continues a breakthrough season for the program.  Norwich closes the week with a new single-season wins record at 13, surpassing the previous program benchmark and adding another milestone to an already memorable campaign.
