Empire 8 Welcomes Dr. Jarrod Spencer to Discuss Psychology of the Pandemic

Dr. Spencer to Present “Psychology of the Pandemic” as part of Empire 8's 2020-21 Virtual Student-Athlete Leadership Series on Tuesday, Jan. 12

The Empire 8 is proud to announce that Dr. Jarrod Spencer will present Psychology of the Pandemic, as part of the Empire 8’s 2020-21 Virtual Student-Athlete Leadership Series. Dr. Spencer will speak to Empire 8 student-athletes virtually on unpacking psychological aspects of the COVID-19 pandemic at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 12. 

Dr. Spencer is president and founder of Mind of the Athlete, LLC, a sports psychology company committed to improving the emotional health of athletes. He is the author of Mind of the Athlete: Clearer Mind, Better Performance and the co-author of the book the The Sky Is NOT The Limit: Discovering the True North for Your Life's Path. He is the creator of the Mind of the Athlete Program, a cutting edge ten hour video and audio sports psychology curriculum. Dr. Spencer empowers people with his signature message of clearer mind, better performance.

“I am excited to engage student athletes from the Empire 8 Athletic Conference on the important topic of mental health,” said Dr. Spencer. “I am going to put tools into their mental toolbox to help them cope even better during this pandemic.”

“This is a great opportunity for our student-athletes to gain more knowledge as they continue to manage the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Empire 8 Commissioner Chuck Mitrano. “Dr. Spencer is a leader in the fields of both mental health and sport psychology and we are thrilled to offer this programming to our student-athletes as they prepare to return to their various campuses for the spring semester.”
 
The 2020-21 Empire 8 Student-Athlete Virtual Leadership series began with Mental Health Empowerment on Oct. 28, featuring keynote speaker Ivy Watts. Tim Wierman of Eat To Compete© – The Athlete’s Sports Nutrition Program spoke to student-athletes on Nov. 18.
 
Throughout the academic year, E8 student-athletes will have an opportunity to take part in the monthly virtual speaker series that will target initiatives both inside and outside the realm of athletics to develop student-athletes' knowledge. Programming will continue throughout the spring semester. The goal of the virtual programming is to enhance student-athletes' skills beyond their sports, focusing on topics that complement their athletic and academic pursuits as the conference prepares them to be “Tomorrow’s Leaders.
