Empire 8 SAAC programs are teaming up to raise money to help fight childhood cancer, as St. John Fisher's 39th annual Teddi Dance for Love is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. on Friday, February 19th and run through 8 p.m. the following evening.

This year's event, which is chaired by Emily Trotman of the nationally-ranked St. John Fisher College softball team and Sam Carson of the College's football program, will have a different look as it will be held virtually.

Throughout the pandemic, the Teddi Dance for Love committee has consisted of 250 student members. To date, the committee has nearly 300 dancers pre-registered for this year's event.

SAAC organizations from all nine Empire 8 institutions are involved in fundraising and participating in this year's Virtual Teddi Dance for Love event.

This year's dance will be even more accessible to the public through a livestream, which can be found on the Teddi website. Through a new initiative, Teddi will have participants from neighboring schools in the area, particularly the University of Rochester and Nazareth College. In an effort to stick with tradition, Teddi 39 will have virtual activities for campers during the usual hours they would be at the Teddi Dance for Love (4pm- 8pm) on Saturday Feb. 20th.

Also new for this year is the introduction of the inaugural Teddi Cup. This initiative is designed to encourage any club, organization, or athletics team at St. John Fisher or at fellow Empire 8 institutions to get involved with the Teddi Dance for Love. Teddi 39 will also include virtual performances from, The Voice contestant Cami Clune, and St. John Fisher's very own Irish Dance Club, Dance Club, and more!

Started in 1982 in memory of Teddi Mervis, the Teddi Dance for Love is a 24-hour dance marathon that benefits Camp Good Days and Special Times, an organization for children and their families dealing with cancer and other life challenges. Students from St. John Fisher College have been hosting the Teddi Dance since 1982.

Since its inception, the Teddi Dance for Love marathon has raised over one million dollars to help fight childhood cancer.
