Empire 8 Champion SUNY Geneseo and Hartwick College combined to sweep all five major individual honors, as the Empire 8 Conference announced its 2025 Field Hockey All-Conference awards on Monday, November 10. The awards are voted on by the league's head coaches.
SUNY Geneseo junior forward Ella Greico was named Empire 8 Offensive Player of the Year, while her teammate, Halle Senfield was named Rookie of the Year and head coach Margaret McConnell and her staff was named E8 Coaching Staff of the Year. Hartwick College junior Katelyn Klotz was named Empire 8 Defensive Player of the Year, while sophomore Ava Reynolds, also of the Hawks, was named Goalkeeper of the Year.
Greico leads the league in scoring with 67 points on 28 goals and 11 assists in 21 games played this season, which is also a Geneseo program record for goals and points in a season. She excelled in league play, tallying 39 points on 16 goals and seven assists in 10 games versus E8 foes. Greico enters the NCAA Tournament having recorded at least one goal in 17 games, with four different hat-tricks and five contests with at least seven points. Greico is currently in the top-10 nationally in both goals (1.33 – sixth) and points (3.19 – sixth) per game.
Klotz enjoyed an excellent season for the Hawks in 2025, leading a stout Hartwick defense that allowed just seven goals in 10 regular season games against Empire 8 opponents during the regular season. Klotz is also a tremendous weapon on penalty corners for Hartwick, as she recorded 37 points on 16 goals and five assists and was 4-for-5 on penalty strokes. Klotz had 26 points on 11 goals and four assists in 10 E8 regular season contests. She is Hartwick’s second E8 Defensive Player of the Year in program history.
Reynolds led the Empire 8 with an .838 save percentage and was second in the league with a 1.41 goals against this season, while finishing 11-6. She was even better in league play, finishing 9-1 with a 0.80 goals against average and an .873 save percentage to go along with four shutouts in 10 E8 contests. Buchanan made at least 10 saves in a game eight times. She is the third Empire 8 Goalkeeper of the Year from Hartwick since 2020.
Senfield has enjoyed an excellent rookie season for the Knights, tallying 25 points on 11 goals and three assists. She excelled in league play this season with 10 goals and 22 points in 10 E8 contests. She has scored two goals in a game four times this season. Senfield is Geneseo’s first E8 Rookie of the Year.
McConnell and assistant coaches Gianna Palma, Meg Reitz, and Kristin Gebhart led the Knights to a 10-0 league mark in 2025, earning Geneseo’s second straight E8 Championship in its second season as a league member. Geneseo out-scored opponents, 62-5 in 10 league games this season and 100-12 overall in 21 contests entering the NCAA Tournament. The Knights, who are second nationally in goals and points per game, have been a mainstay in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association top-20 throughout the season and have now won 23 straight games (regular season and postseason) against Empire 8 opponents since joining in 2024.
SUNY Geneseo led all institutions with five first team selections, while Hartwick and Nazareth University each had four first team picks. The Knights had eight All-Conference selections overall to lead the league. Greico and teammate Sam Lewis of Geneseo, Hope Angioletti of Hartwick and Audra Mieczkowski of Nazareth earned All-Empire 8 first team honors for the second consecutive season.
One member of each team was named that institution's representative on the 2025 Field Hockey Tomorrow’s Leaders Team. This team honors a student-athlete who has emerged as a leader not only on the field of play, but in the classroom and in the community. In addition, they “compete with honor and integrity” and have distinguished themselves and consistently exhibit the critical traits as outstanding sportswomen.
“Developing character and integrity is a hallmark of the Empire 8,” said E8 Executive Director
Chuck Mitrano. “This series is proof that Empire 8 and our member institutions are committed to intercollegiate athletics’ important role in higher education.”
