SUNY Geneseo Trio Earn 2026 Niagara Region Men's Outdoor Honors

SUNY Geneseo junior Ryan Hagan was named the 2026 Niagara Region Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year, Geneseo Track and Field Head Coach Chris Popovici and Geneseo Track and Field Assistant Coach Dan Moore earned the 2026 Niagara Region Head and Assistant Coach of the Year awards as announced by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) .

Hagan, who hails from Liverpool, NY, wrote his name all over the record book this season, setting an NCAA DIII record in the 1500 meters of 3:37.19, moving to seventh all-time in the 800 meters at 1:48.09, and climbing to 14th all-time in the 5000 meters at 13:55.68. He won the 1500 at the NCAA DIII Outdoor Championships in a meet-record 3:44.29 and returned to place second in the 800.

Popovici, in his twelfth year as Head Coach at SUNY Geneseo, led the Knights to the team title at the Empire 8 Conference Outdoor Championships with 282 points. SUNY Geneseo won the 4×400 relay at the 2026 NCAA DIII Outdoor Championships, clocking 3:07.62 to become the No. 5 program in DIII history. 

Moore, in his eleventh year as Assistant Coach at SUNY Geneseo, coached the Knight’s Ryan Hagan to the NCAA DIII record in the 1500 meters at 3:37.89. His athletes earned four All-America honors at the 2026 NCAA DIII Outdoor Championships, led by Hagan’s 1500 title, racked up top-5 national #EventSquad Rankings in the 800 (No. 2), 1500 (No. 2), steeplechase (No. 3) and 5000 (No. 5).
