For the seventh consecutive week, a member of the St. John Fisher College department of Athletes was recognized at the national level as senior Kyle Rollins of the men's track and field team was named the National Field Athlete of the Week by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Tuesday following his record-setting week.
Rollins had a week for the ages as the Groveland native broke two program records and vaulted to the top spot in Division III in both the high jump and the triple jump.
A six-time All-American during his career, Rollins shattered his own program benchmark in the high jump at the RIT Invitational on Monday after clearing 2.17m (7-1.5ft) to take over the Division III lead. Rollins, who won a national championship in the high jump in 2019, recorded the 12th-best performance in divisional history.
On Friday, Rollins switched to the triple jump where he smashed another record with a bound of 15.45m (50-8.25ft) to capture the nation's top overall ranking by over a meter.
Rollins, who was named the Empire 8 Field Athlete of the Week on Monday, has now been recognized by the USTFCCCA twice this season.
The track and field program is scheduled to be back in action Friday when the men's and women's teams travel to Brockport for the Brockport Friday Night Invite.
