Host St. John Fisher holds the lead after day one of the 2021 Empire 8 Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Championship at the Polisseni Track and Field Complex on Friday, May 7. St. John Fisher has 86 points, 41 points ahead of second-place Houghton, who has 45 points after seven of the 21 scored events.
St. John Fisher senior Kyle Rollins won the long jump for the first time at the outdoor championships, recording a leap of 6.76 meters. Classmate Chase Corcoran earned a win in the hammer throw with a toss of 53.99 meters. Utica senior Chase Pecoraro won the javelin throw with a toss of 48.79 meters.
Houghton student-athletes won a pair of individual events, as first-year Seth Greene opened the meet by taking the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 10:00.22 and senior Nathaniel Zedomi claimed the title in the 400-meter dash, crossing the finish line first in 50.27 seconds.
The Cardinals’ 4 x 800-meter relay team of Ryan Allen, Ryan English, Myles Anderson and Grant Stokoe earned the victory in 8:20.27.
