The Empire 8 Conference announced its 2022 Men’s Outdoor Track and Field All-Conference selections on Friday, May 13. Utica University won the 2022 E8 Outdoor Championship and had 14 student-athletes who earned 19 different honors.
To be named an E8 All-Conference selection, a student-athlete must have finished in the top three of an event at the Conference's Championship Meet. Winners of the event are named to the First Team, while the Second Team is comprised of the runner-up from each event and third place finisher earns Third Team accolades.
The Empire 8 will name its formal 2022 Outdoor Track and Field yearly award winners and Sportswoman of the Year team after nationals, which are scheduled for May 26-28.
Nazareth College junior distance runner Nathan Bowers of Nazareth was named the 2022 Empire 8 Outdoor Championship Track Athletes of the Meet. Bowers was victorious in both the 5,000- and 10,000-meter championships over the weekend. He set an Empire 8 Championship meet record in winning the grueling 10,000-meter event on Friday evening in a time of 32:26.29. He also crossed the finish line first in the 5,000-meters in 15:28.73.
Utica graduate student Ka'Sean Watlington was named Empire 8 Outdoor Field Athlete of the Meet after winning, the long jump and triple jump events, in addition to running the opening leg on Utica's winning 4x100-meter relay team. On Friday, Watlington won his second outdoor long jump title with a leap of 7.23 meters, second best in E8 Championship history. On Saturday, Watlington won his second E8 triple jump championship with a meet record leap of 15.10 meters, which is also the top triple jump in Division III to date this season.
