NEW ORLEANS, LA – Days before the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships, St. John Fisher College standout Kyle Rollins was recognized as the 2022 Niagara Region Field Athlete of the Year.
It's the second year in a row that Rollins has been crowned the best field athlete in the region by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). He became the first Cardinal in program history to receive the award in what was previously dubbed the Atlantic Region in 2021. He also earned Niagara Region Field Athlete of the Year for the 2021-22 indoor season.
Rollins, who was also named the USTFCCCA National Men's Athlete of the Week, enters this year's NCAA Championships as the No. 1-ranked athlete in the country in both the triple jump and his signature event, the high jump. In six meets this spring, the Groveland, New York, product has collected nine first-place finishes, eight of which came in field events. He's finished atop the podium with five gold medals in the high jump, including the Empire 8 Conference and All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Conference (AARTFC) Championships. Rollins cleared 2.12 meters, the top height in Division III, on two occasions in 2022.
He has also won the triple jump thrice this season, highlighted by a Division III-leading mark of 15.11 meters at the AARTFC Championships last week.
A 10-time All-America selection, two-time outdoor national champion, and the 2021-22 indoor high jump gold medalist, Rollins will cap off one of the most storied careers in Fisher history at the NCAA Division III Championships at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio. The men's high jump is scheduled for Friday, May 27, at 2:00 p.m. The triple jump is set for Saturday, May 28, at 11:00 a.m.
