EUGENE, OR – One of the most decorated athletes in Division III history made his mark on the national stage on Sunday afternoon as Kyle Rollins finished fifth overall in the high jump at the 2022 United States of America Track and Field Outdoor Championship at Hayward Field.
Rollins, who was the lone Division III competitor in a field that included Division I athletes, national champions and Olympians, cleared 2.17m (7'1.5") on his first attempt. From there, the Groveland native was staring down a personal best of 2.22m after having become one of just a handful of Division III competitors to net 2.20 meters earlier this year. The graduate didn't disappoint as he was one of just six jumpers to clear 7'3.25" to advance in the competition.
Fresh off winning his third straight NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship in the high jump on May 27, Rollins was also named the Niagara Region Field Athlete of the Year by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. He is now the first three-time Field Athlete of the Year in Empire 8 Outdoor Track and Field history. Overall, Rollins won four straight Empire 8 Indoor Field Athlete of the Year honors and was the 2017-18 Indoor and 2018 Outdoor Rookie of the Year. He also won the long jump title at the 2022 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Rollins claimed his third consecutive outdoor and fourth overall national title after winning the high jump with a mark of 2.16 meters. He also added to his All-America total after taking sixth in the triple jump at nationals on May 28 to earn his 12th overall All-America nod. Rollins, who won his fourth straight individual E8 title in the high jump last month, claimed both the long jump and triple jump titles at the All-Atlantic Region Championships on May 17-18.
