SUNY Geneseo senior middle distance standout Ryan Hagan was named the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division III Men's National Track Athlete of the Week on April 13, 2026.
Hagan is unquestionably the fastest man in NCAA DIII history in the 1,500 meters. The SUNY Geneseo standout clocked 3:38.67 this past weekend at the Bison Outdoor Classic for the fastest mark ever run by an NCAA DIII athlete either in-season or out. Hagan sat about 0.40 seconds behind Penn State’s Nick Sloff through 1,100 meters before throwing down a final lap of 55.40 to win by nearly a second. Sloff had a big indoor season for the Nittany Lions, finishing top five in both the 3,000 meters and 5,000 meters at the Big Ten Championships.
This is the second time in program history that a male athlete from SUNY Geneseo has been named M-F Athletic National Athlete of the Week during the outdoor season. Hagan joins 2018 honoree Isaac Garcia-Cassani in that regard.
National Athlete of the Week is an award selected and presented by the USTFCCCA Communications Staff at the beginning of each week to 12 collegiate track & field, when applicable (male and female for each of the three NCAA divisions, the NAIA and the NJCAA).
Nominations are open to the public. Coaches and sports information directors are encouraged to nominate their student-athletes; as are student-athletes, their families and friends, and fans of their programs. Nominated athletes are noticed before those athletes found through searching TFRRS.
The award seeks to highlight not only the very best times, marks and scores on a week-to-week basis, but also performances that were significant on the national landscape and/or the latest in a series of strong outings. Quality of competition, suspenseful finishes and other factors will also play a role in the decision.
